Two interesting plants!:
Aechmea fasciata: commonly called the silver vase or urn plant that's native to southeastern Brazil. It could grow in the ground or in the trees without taking any nourishment when the plant is in its native habitat though still is a good flowering houseplant. Something to be aware of is that the the plant shoot blooms only once and would then die afterwards.
Croton: commonly called rushfoil or croton that's native to Malaysia, Pacfic islands, and northern Australia. The plant typically grows to 6 feet tall. In the St. Louis area, it grows up to 2-4 feet tall as a houseplant or outdoor accent plant. For this plant to have the best color and overall vigor, it can be achieved with plenty of bright light and moisture.
